We are a unique medical practice…
Ketogenic Life is a medical clinic with staff who understand, practice and promote the benefits of a low carbohydrate (LCHF) and ketogenic diet.
We are a part of a medical practice established by Dr Ian Johnson and Cathy Williams over 20 years ago. We have a wholistic, individual approach to the care we provide and pride ourselves on establishing long term relationships with our patients.
We were the first practice to offer skin cancer screening and treatments in Queensland in 1997. Our focus is to address the whole patient and to help that person optimise and manage their health.
We encourage a low carbohydrate-ketogenic lifestyle with the associated health benefits this brings.
You will be supported by a warm and professional team who prides itself on their ability to connect with clients and empower them to take the steps required to optimise their health.

We have each had our own personal low carbohydrate – ketogenic journey, a nutrition based approach to improving our health. We have seen the amazing benefits that this has produced and it is our passionate hope that we can encourage others along this path.
I started reading about this and then began reducing my own carbohydrate intake, starting with the obvious culprits like sugary drinks, table sugar, confectionery and my favourite, potato chips! By the end of 5 weeks I had lost 5 kg. Over the following year I lost another 10 kg.
My interest in the concept grew and I began to learn about the additional benefits of being ketogenic. This is achieved by further restricting dietary carbohydrates, to 20 grams per day or less, thus forcing your body to metabolise fat. Initially, this fat comes from your own fat stores if you have weight to lose. Later, once you have achieved a healthy weight, fats become a significant part of your daily diet.
I eventually came to accept that saturated fats were not dangerous and that these fats had been unjustly maligned. The Western world has been manipulated into switching to a high carbohydrate, low fat diet by big business and biased research. Tragically, we are now faced with an explosion in the rates of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, dementia, cancer and degenerative diseases world wide.
We now recognise that our bodies have evolved so that we can obtain energy from two sources, either carbohydrate (sugar) or fat.
To utilise carbohydrates (or sugars and pasta etc as we know them) the body needs insulin. Unfortunately, high levels of insulin can stimulate cancer, lead to fat deposition in our organs and blood vessels, cause an increase in inflammation and cause harmful proteins to accumulate in our brains leading to dementia and so on.
When we get our energy from healthy fats it is a much cleaner metabolic process. Our requirement for insulin is decreased with all the benefits this brings. Eating this way gives you stable and sustained energy levels throughout the day. Hunger pangs and food cravings disappear making it much easier to achieve a healthy weight and sustain this effortlessly, long term.
I cannot now imagine eating any other way! I feel that I can influence and improve my health more positively than I ever believed possible. I firmly believe that diet is the single most significant thing that we can all do to improve our health and feel in control of our own destiny.
